ART 103 – Acrylic Painting

Explore the beautiful colors within acrylic painting! This course will use the techniques from Art 101-Beginning Graphite Drawing and Art 102– Use of Color Within Pastels and take it beyond into exploring with a different medium of acrylic paints. Students will have a quality original at the completion of the course. Class minimum – 5 students to maximum – 10 students. A material kit will be available to purchase for $35. You may bring your own materials instead of buying a kit. Please have a range of acrylic paint colors and brushes. Let BOCES know if you need a kit when you register.

Watercolor Workshop

Beginning Watercolor Class

Discover how to create beautiful artwork from start to finish, enhance your creative thinking, and train your brain to see the world through the eyes of an artist.  Participants will learn the fundamental elements of composition and principals of watercolor painting, and practice basic  techniques and methods.  The cost includes enough paint, paper, and brushes to complete the three classes and beyond.

Explore the art of charcoal and pastel! This introductory course will demonstrate the value scales used in charcoal techniques and an introduction to pastel which will be used to bring color to our subjects. This course will use the techniques from Art 101 beginning graphite drawing and take it beyond the pencil to color. Students will have a quality original at the completion. The materials kit will be available to purchase on the first day of class for $25. Please let BOCES know if you are needing a kit by the registration deadline date listed above. Cupcake Decorating Class for Kids

This will be a fun class for kids ages 8 and older to decorate cupcakes with candy in time for Valentine’s Day. Cupcakes, frosting, and decorations will be provided.

A concise course for students who want to develop rapid skills in drawing. We will cover drawing materials, uses of paper, lines and tones, flat to three-dimensional drawings, realistic drawings, working with focal points, composition, perspective, texture of objects, use of light and shading, and proportions. Focusing on these points will provide skills to progress to different subjects, diverse mediums, and prepare you for ART 102 – Charcoals and Pastels (mid-February), ART 103 - paints (mid-March). Students will complete a  quality original by the end of classes. Materials list provided at time of registration. Supply kits available to purchase for $24 at time of registration.

First, you must be willing to experiment and live intentionally rather than out of habit. To live intentionally you are able to become aware of the things that are most important. Listen to the possibilities in this Professional Organizing class and learn how you can improve your life through choosing what stays and what goes. Learn why you can't keep your house tidy. Listen to ways in which your decision making to discard or keep objects has a bit to do with your personality and mostly to do with inaction. In this class, you’ll be taught to visualize your space within your home walls and finish with discarding.

Methods of Candy Making

Come learn the secrets to making delicious homemade candies that make affordable gifts for Christmas, Valentines or any occasion, and will satisfy any sweet tooth. Sarah McRoberts, owner of Sprinkles and Pops, will demonstrate how to make peanut brittle in a microwave; English Toffee the old fashioned way; Caramel for gourmet apples, chocolate dipped caramels, and even your own version of your favorite candy bar. Participants will have an opportunity to dip cherry chocolates, caramels, cream centers and nuts. Each   participant will take home samples of their favorites. 


Concealed Weapons Permit

Principles of Manual Photography

Instructor: Lydia Nelson

Dates: September 25, October 2, 9, & 16            Time: 6:00-7:00pm

Location: BOCES Media Center                 Cost: $50

Get that fancy camera out of auto and take your photos to the next level! We'll cover manual exposure, understanding depth of field, how and when to freeze movement or creatively blur it, basics of composition, when B&W is a good idea and when it isn't, how to let your photo tell a story, and other tips and techniques for getting the images you want. We'll also take a little "field trip" to practice in real time and bring back our work for constructive feedback as we learn together. A DSLR camera is   highly recommended for this course, since we will be covering manual exposure and settings.

The sooner we take control of our finances the sooner we can move forward. This class is for students completing 9th-12th grade and those currently in college. Fly Tying

Do you like to fly fish but are not sure how to tie your own flies? Are you learning to fly fish and would like to start fly tying? Bart Jernigan will teach participants how to tie several different flies, explain the differences in flies and go over which ones to use where. *Must bring own supplies or purchase starter kit.


Learning to Fly Cast Better to Catch More Fish

Dayle Mazzarella is a Fly Fishers International Master Casting Instructor, as well as a long time   Wyoming fishing guide. Dayle has conducted fly casting and fly fishing clinics, presentations, and camps all across America. His casting instruction is deeply rooted in his fishing experiences. Dayle has fished all over the world for species as small as High Mountain Cutts to 200 lb. sharks and tarpon.

Chalk Couture Wooden Planter Box

Prices: Small planter box $30 without jars; $33 with jars; Large Planter box $35 without jars; $40.00 with jars.

In this class you will be inspired to create a planter box that will be customizable for a specific theme or event. There are many uses such as flower planters, utensil holders, centerpieces, and decorations for reception tables, wedding décor or even a gift box. Quart mason jar displays would be a perfect idea as they are very popular for home decor. The list is endless.

Package includes:

  • Planter box (choice of large pine box 24"X6"x4" with 5 mason jars or small pine box 16”x6”x4” with 3 mason jars)

Discover the World of Chalk Couture

Are you looking for a new diverse way to decorate your home, a unique and personalized gift to give that special someone, or decorations for a specific event or holiday celebration? Would you like to change it for special occasions or just because you want to replace it with something fresh and new? You will learn how to design with Chalkology Paste and we will discuss basic techniques used on several types of media. This paste can be removed with water for a different design or it can be sealed for a permanent project. The choice is yours. ANYONE CAN CHALK! Samples are available to view at the BOCES Office. Everything will be furnished with the exception of a hair dryer (please bring one if possible).
